It’s Been A While

I realize that it has been a while since I have posted anything. For those of you who have stuck with me through this down time, I appreciate you and your loyalty! I have accepted a job working from home. And though this position has me working from home, I am still extremely busy. But don’t get me wrong, I am very, very thankful for this opportunity. I really enjoyed spending every day with my boys over the summer, but I am happy that I am back to work and able to contribute to this family again.

With going back to work, I have been trying to get back on a schedule after being laid off for about five months. I tried to stick to a similar schedule while I was laid off, but sometimes that just simply didn’t happen. You also forget how much needs to be done around that house in such a small window of time after work. It has definitely been an adjustment.

The boys have been trying to get used to going back to a babysitter, and I have been trying to get used to rushing around after work again. Waking up early to take the boys to a babysitter, and rushing out the door to pick them back up, just so that I can get back home to start cooking dinner. And of course cooking dinner is followed up with sitting down to eat and relax for a second, just before getting back up again to finish what needs to be done before bed.

Doing dishes, picking up a few things that the kids got out while I was cooking, making lunches, packing bags, giving baths, and still having to take a shower myself. I feel like I had it all figured out before I got laid off, so I have been trying to figure out how to get back on that schedule. I am slowly but surely getting there.

I of course did all of these same things before I got laid off, but I have had to add a few more tasks to my nightly routine since then. We have acquired a couple more animals in the past few months. We started with a fifty-five gallon aquarium full of fish and a thirty-five gallon tank with a semi aquatic turtle. We have now added a hedgehog, two guinea pigs, and a hairless cat. Now, obviously the fish and the turtle are easy. You just feed them and go about your day. The hedgehog on the other hand, lives in a cage that needs to be scooped at least every other day, and a wheel that needs to be cleaned every single day.

By the way, if you are considering getting a pet hedgehog, please take into consideration that they are nocturnal, and they really like to use the bathroom while running in their wheel. This may not sound terrible, but hedgies have to have solid wheels because of the way that their feet are, so all of that mess coats the inside of their wheel. So, the wheel needs to be cleaned A LOT, and this also requires you to give them weekly baths, and you have to make sure you keep their little feet clean.

Anyways, the guinea pigs are brothers and they share a very LARGE cage together. And boy do they like to eat. It honestly amazes me how much they eat! So of course with how much the both of them eat, their cage needs to be cleaned daily. They really love their veggies.

And of course the kitty. We just got her a couple of weeks ago. She is still a kitten and needs a lot of attention. And of course there is making sure she has food and of course scooping her littler. It honestly doesn’t need to be scooped every day, but I figure I might as well just scoop it since I am already scooping other animal’s cages. And like I mentioned, she is hairless. And unfortunately, hairless cats get VERY oily. So she needs a bath once a week also.

And aside from the zoo that we have acquired, there are still other normal things that need to be done. Like the days that I do laundry, which I usually do in the middle of the week and on the weekend. In a home with a husband who is constantly getting his clothes disgusting at work, and two boys who are constantly getting into everything, I do laundry A LOT. I am sure that I am not the only one who feels like laundry is literally never ending.

BUT. I am officially a month into my job and I am starting to get the hang of trying to get things done on my breaks. Working at home definitely has it’s benefits. I get two ten minute breaks, and an hour lunch. I figured out that I can start a load of laundry in the morning, put it in the dryer and start another load on my ten minute, and then fold the first load on my lunch, and so on. I can also run the dishwasher, or put dishes away, etc. Pretty much anything I want. I haven’t made lunches or anything on my breaks yet, but I definitely have the time to do so, so I will definitely start taking advantage of that. Then I will have some of my evenings back and I can start writing more often again.

I have been meaning to start writing on the weekends, but I feel like I have had so much going on each weekend. I have had birthday parties, weddings, and a lot of decorating for the holidays. And the weekend that I didn’t have anything happening, I have been so exhausted that I didn’t want to do anything.

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote anything. But I do feel like I have been in a very good place mentally. I feel like being back to work has definitely helped. I am not sure if it is because I have been too busy to have bad days, of if I feel better about everything now that I don’t have to stress over things anymore. Either way, I feel very good. My anxiety had gotten so bad that I chewed all of my finger nails off through the entire summer. And I am happy to say that they are finally starting to grow back. I find it interesting how little things like me biting my nails can change so quickly.

I am going to insert my mental health plug here and say that it is important to do things for you and your well being. When life drags you down, don’t give up. Keep pushing. Good things will come. I know that it did for me.

And like I said, I will definitely try to start keeping up with this blog again. I have a lot of support from so many people and I really do appreciate it. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will be back soon!
